Maximising your profit

JMC CAT Comrade System
Are you letting value leave the yard? Process equipment like JMC's CAT Comrade let's you extract that added value.
There are two sides to making money out of end of life vehicles. Firstly there’s the parts, and here at ATF Professional we are under no illusion of the potential there. Then there is the residue - the hulk, engines, cats, wheels and tyres etc, etc. Are you making the most of it?

One company that wants to help you capitalise on the value that’s left after the parts have been removed is JMC Recycling. Many of you will be aware of this company as they have a long established reputation for supplying metals recyclers but what you may not be aware of is the now extensive range of processing equipment they have that’s directly aimed at the vehicle dismantler. JMC’s MD, Phillip Pownall explained, “The vehicle dismantler is in the ideal position to gain value to the materials that still lie within the ELV. The current price of metals compared to processing costs makes it a profitable proposition, with the added potential to expand this new area of business by dealing with other dismantlers in the area”.

We often talk about depollution kit on these pages but what JMC is offering is way beyond this. As we all know, depollution is something that has to be done but doesn’t do anything for the bottom line. What we are looking at here is plant to granulate your cables that will give you 99.9% copper, engine crushers to allow greater separation of the aluminium and steel, again increasing and adding value, CAT recycling equipment that lets you recover the precious metals, car balers and other machines to all help bring processing into your yard. More than likely, you’re currently sending the profit from these operations straight out of the front gate.

The big question we all need the answer to is, “Do the sums add up?” JMC tell us they can show many cases where it has made real financial sense to the dismantler. Over the next few months we plan to look at these various revenue streams and analyse the profit potential for the dismantler. JMC are also planning to have many of these products working at CARS, the Complete Auto Recycling Show which takes place next June. This will be a great opportunity to see for yourself the potential of bringing some onward processing into the yard.

In the meantime, if you want to know more now you can visit JMC’s website, call them on 0115 940 9630 or email them.

Developing a national green parts market for our industry is one of the major themes at this year’s CARS expo. There will be seminars and forums where we as an industry can move things forward.
