Paul Taroni takes on the North Pole

Paul Taroni Killimanjaro
Birmingham based auto recycler, Paul Taroni has already climbed Killimanjaro now he plans to take on the North Pole.
Many may remember Paul Taroni’s efforts a couple of year’s back when he and his fellow adventurers conquered Killimanjaro, and raised £12,000 for charity. This year they are at it again and the bar has been raised - they’re going to conquer the North Pole.

This is no ordinary feat. Paul has been training for over 14 months which included a London to Paris bike ride, a UK coast to coast bike ride and naturally, a great deal of pulling tyres and sledges accross the beach at Burnham on Sea. The six individuals are all raising money for charity. In Paul’s case it’s for the Albrighton Trust which provides educational, recreational and leisure facilities for mentally, physically and sensory disabled users. The six individuals involved are all self funded so all donations go straight to the charity. Paul told us, “I have worked in scrap and auto recycling since I was a boy and it has given me a good life. This is my way of giving something back to those who haven’t been so fortunate. The Albrighton Trust is a small charity and I know that every penny will go to improving lives and not become lost in administrative charges as so often seems to happen with the larger charities. I would ask you all to click the link below and give what you can.”

The expedition will set off to Norway on March 31st for a few training days before moving further North for the trip to the Pole. This will help them acclimatise to the -35 degrees, white-outs and storms, not to mention the odd polar bear!
The expedition is led by Alan Chambers MBE, the first British man to walk unsupported to the North Pole and Dr Ed Coats (BBC - on thin ice) who joined Ben Fogle and James Cracknell on their epic televised race to the South Pole in 2009.

The whole challenge takes place on frozen ice above the Arctic Ocean where the camp is only set up for one month a year in April. This is the only window of opportunity to trek/ski to the pole. And for anyone who has been going hungry, trying lose weight since Christmas, Paul and his mates will need to consume 6,000 calories per day!

Paul would like you all to dig deep on this one and show what our industry is about. ATF Professional will be making it’s donation so why not join us. Click here to logon and register your donation. Paul will be up at the CARS show in June with photos and tales of the trip - so you can come and find out what it’s like taking on this challenge from the horse’s mouth.
