Only two weeks to go - have you registered yet?

There has never been anything like this before for our industry. Everything from an Abanaki oil skimmer to this Hammel shredder will be put through it's paces.
It’s never happened before but it’s all happening now - A show dedicated to the auto recycling industry. Every aspect of auto recycling, from recovering vehicles to processing the various material fractions will be in one place at one time - trade stands, seminars, training and live demonstrations, with auto recyclers and materials processors coming from the far reaches of the planet to be there.

Before we look at what CARS has to offer, it’s worth taking a look at how it came about. A number of leading UK auto recyclers regularly go over to the States to visit shows and attend conferences. They do this for one reason, to find out new ideas and new ways of working. This isn’t just a ‘jolly’ for them, although they do have a great time; this is all about developing their businesses and increasing profit.

Coming from a different angle, a number of equipment suppliers to the industry have felt for a long time that there is nowhere to showcase their equipment to the industry. There is a third strand to this tale. The IRT (International Round Table on Auto Recycling) takes place every couple of years and the plan was to hold it in UK/Europe.

One final point, we appear to have an auto recycling industry in the UK that is really starting to move forward. Issues such as green parts and reaching the 95% target in 2015 are pulling the whole industry together, with many auto recyclers recognising that the future lies in trade and insurance sales for parts coupled with enhanced performance from post shredder technology.

All these points came to a head last year when individuals from interested sectors happened to get together and the idea of CARS was formulated. A show dedicated to auto recycling and secondary metals. If the show was to succeed, then it must deliver what the vehicle dismantler and scrap processor needs.

One early request was for machines to be able to work so that visitors could see and compare what was on offer. CARS is on target to have over 50 trade stands with companies from all aspects of the industry. Roger Dyson with his recovery vehicles, the latest equipment from the industries’ depollution specialists, ancillary equipment such as cat processing and tyre bay kit, visit the website and you will what an extensive list it is!

There is an important point to this. You get to see the latest equipment and find out if, and how it can improve your bottom line. That’s what many of the leading dismantlers go abroad for and that’s why CARS came about, so you can get this benefit as well.

To explain what we mean, let’s consider Overton’s Auto Dismantling System which will be on show. Figures indicate that there could be up to 25% increase in profit from every ELV by using this piece of equipment - that has to be worth looking at. The system will be working at CARS so you can actually see it for yourself - the industry just hasn’t had opportunities like this before.

Added value is a big theme at the show as one of the most practical ways to increase profit is to increase the return from the vehicles you already process. Companies like JMC will be demonstrating their small scale non-ferrous processing machinery including their latest engine crusher and CAT recycling systems. These are all areas where you may consider bringing the process inside. If you really think big, Hammel will be showing their latest shredder and there are numerous balers and magnetic equipment to see as well - the list goes on!

If further processing isn’t for you, then getting the best price for your scrap should be. At CARS you have the opportunity to meet a large number of buyers under one roof. Whether that’s whole shells with EMR, batteries with GP or CATS with All Waste Trading - CARS is a place for you to do business and get those profits up!

They say information is king - well you will definitely come away with plenty of that. There are two jam packed days of training, seminars and forums where you will find out the latest developments and techniques that will make your business run sweeter. As Dave Morgan from Pinnacle put it, “If you leave with one new idea you will reap a real benefit”. And that’s just on increasing effectiveness through technology. There’s everything from processing hybrids, business development, new vehicle technologies to building green parts business. Each and everyone of these seminars includes details to help you develop your business. The full seminar and training programme is in the show guide which can be found here.

Don’t forget, there is also a social side. We all like to relax and CARS is all about sharing time with like minded friends, family and colleagues, particularly on the Friday night get together. Your ticket includes all food and drink, and there’s transport laid on to get you too and from the hotel - so you can enjoy that extra pint!

CARS shall also be hosting the MVDA Annual General Meeting at the show from 11.45 to 12.30 on the Friday. If you are a member and don’t regularly attend the AGM’s then why not go along. You will get to see first hand what the Association is doing and how it benefits the industry. You can also have your say which is always a good thing.

Visit the CARS website for full details and registration. See you there.
