Expansion at Green Car

Green Car’s new premises means room to expand with dedicated research and development.
Depollution specialists, Green Car Depollution recently moved to bigger premises, tripling the size of their manufacturing facility and opening more opportunities for product development.

Tewkesbury based, Green Car are well known to many of us with their range of depollution equipment and related products and now they are pleased to announce that their move to new premises is complete. The move hasn’t gone as smoothly as they had anticipated with asbestos being discovered in the building half way during their move. Green Car’s business manager, Olivia Hutchins told atfPro, “It came as a bit of a shock as our move had to be put on hold half way through. This meant much of our manufacturing equipment was out of action during this period. Thankfully, the issues are now resolved and since September, the only way is up!”

The new site not only allows for a serious increase in production capacity of existing lines, but also gives the company a dedicated research and development facility. The industry should not underestimate the benefits this brings. Head of marketing, Joanna Dale explained, “One major problem today with the equipment available to ATFs is that it hasn’t been designed specifically for the job and as such is often a compromise. Tools such as cat cutters, shocker tools and other ancillary equipment fall within this group and we are pleased to report that we are now developing a range of job specific ancillary tools for the ATF. These should begin to come on stream in the near future.” Julian Dale, the technical brains behind Green Car has many years experience with depollution equipment and has recognised for a long time the problems that arise of making do with tools not designed for our industry. "Our industry deserves a comprehensive range of equipment to allow for fast and safe vehicle processing," said Julian.

Green Car are also expanding into related markets and recently took on the agency for Italian magnet manufacturer, Gauss magnetti, who offer a comprehensive range of both lifting magnets and eddy current separators. This equipment is essential for separating the different material streams after processes such as engine / transmission crushing or shredding. If this is an area you are planning to add value with, it may be worth a chat!

Another key development is the announcement of a working showroom based at Motorhog’s Gloucester site, which is only 20 minutes from the factory. This has two great benefits. Firstly, it’s fantastic for potential customers as they can see Green Car’s products in a real working environment and secondly, from Green Car’s perspective, they can use this facility to trial new developments and make any modifications prior to a new product being launched on the market.

On October 18th, 2012, Olivia and Joanna were invited to dinner with the new secretary of state for the environment, Owen Patterson. The hot topic was ‘end of life badgers’ rather than cars (as a number of local farmers were also invited) however they did chat about our industry and had the opportunity did explain about the many problems we encounter that hamper both growth and expansion. The minister explained that he was absolute in supporting, not stifling private sector businesses, especially businesses involved in the recycling industry and is open to listening further to the industry's concerns regarding this.

The future looks bright for Green Car and if you want to get in touch, their new address is Green Car Depollution Ltd, Unit 28 Cotteswold Dairy Est, Tewkesury, Glos, GL20 8JE. Their telephone number remains the same, 01684 298084 and you can see details of their product range on Green Car’s website.
