Countdown to CARS - just over a month to go for two days of dismantling indulgence!

Don't forget, CARS is as much about a bit of fun and meeting up with old mates as it is making your business better.
Seeing the latest kit, finding out new and improved ways to do the job and learning how to increase your bottom line are all good but we all like to have a bit of fun and it’s great to see that exhibitors are joining in with the spirit of CARS.

Specialist industry insurance broker, IHN who have worked tirelessly to keep insurance available to the industry (when many have turned their backs on us) want to know what we’re made of. They’re bringing along their strong man machine and are challenging us to have a go - you may even walk off with their iron man trophy, or is that IHN man trophy!

It could also be worth your while talking to them about your insurance as they have now put in place a number of options for the industry including policies for MVDA members through Alliance.

Depollution specialists, Green Car come from the land of Banksy - the famous graffiti artist and think an ELV makes the perfect canvas - who knows, you may get the chance to buy an original work of art on an old door at the auction on Thursday night - all you have to do then is wait for the artist to get famous!

Apart from the art, Green Car tell us they will have a number of new products for us all to see at CARS this year including their new ‘shock tool’ for draining shock absorbers and a new tower for petrol and diesel removal that’s designed to fit in a tight space. There’s also a totally new product that they won’t even tell us about - it’s a surprise!

Car racing is back! It was fantastic fun last time and we’re sure it will be again. Headline sponsor, Remove My Car are bringing the Racing Bug Car Track to their stand so let the competition commence. If you haven’t come across Remove My Car’s new online auction system, which they tell us is the first of its kind in the industry, then you can take a good look when you’re at the show. The system gives ATFs access to their own profile in which they can view information about an ELV and bid within 30 minutes, returning a fast, final bid for the car, with the seller having the option to accept the figure once the auction’s finished.

Remove My Car tell us that the idea is to give ATFs access to better quality vehicles across the country, and you can also filter by age, make and model in specific postcode regions to avoid ‘taking the rough with the smooth’ that is experienced far too often. Consumers and motor traders are also given the option to donate 100% of the car’s value to automotive charity BEN.
The big machine area is bigger than ever
The big machine area gave us plenty of fun last time with Overton’s Auto Dismantling system demonstrating how you can make an extra 30% on your ELVs and then Hammel’s mobile frag taking the hulks and shredding them into processed material.

This year there’s loads more to the big machine area. Overton and Hammel will both be back and I’m sure they will have new bits and bobs to show. I know Overton have a new machine designed for chopping radiators, again all designed to add value and build those profits!

New this year will be two more dismantling systems, the Powerhand Vehicle Recycling System and the Scorpion from SAS Forks. For us as dismantlers it means we can really see and compare this type of product which is fast gaining popularity. These machines are all about making more from each vehicle but we are all aware that if you’re not careful you can spend £10 to save £5. That’s why it’s great to see them working as this is the only way we can judge how effective they are. Users have confirmed that they have achieved in the region of 30% increases in the return from materials so these processes do look the business.

Blue Fuchs will also be hard at work in the big machine area, demonstrating their cranes and material handlers. That’s all we know at the moment but there could well be some surprises when we get to the show.

Code of practice flawed, the opinion of the BVSF
One has to be concerned when the insurer’s new Code of Practice (CoP) that received its “soft launch” a week or so back isn’t supported by either the Motor Vehicle Dismantlers’ Association or the British Vehicle Salvage Federation, two of the main owners of the pre-existing code.
