So much more than a trade show - and you might be able to help!

Motorhog's Doncaster Headquarters
Next week (June 5/6th, 2014) Motorhog's Headquarters in Doncaster will become the focal point of auto recycling in the UK.
CARS 2014 is only a week away and this year the show promises to be better than ever but it’s not just the stands and seminar programmes that make CARS special, it’s simply part of the industry and a whole lot of fun!

That’s what makes it so different from any other trade show - catching up with friends and other auto recyclers, checking out the latest kit, having a couple of beers - this is work at its best. The show doesn’t stop at the end of the afternoon, it then turns into a great night's entertainment. One of the big events during the evening is the charity auction and you might be able to help!

This year CARS2014 is supporting 2 charities – one local and one national - Firefly and RettUK. At CARS 2012, attendees raised a whopping £15,000 through donations and the charity auction. The organisers are hoping to raise a similar amount again for good causes but they urgently need auction lots.
CHARITY AUCTION LOTS – can you help?
Ideas for auction lots include the use of a holiday home, tickets to sporting, concert or theatre events, an ipad or iphone, a stay in a luxury hotel or a meal, beauty treatments/ health spa etc.
If there’s something you can do to help, then get in touch with one of the following:
Terry Charlton on 07836 738 560 or
Iona Smith on 020 7633 4526 or
Chloe Whittaker on 020 7633 4522

The show has someone a bit special to be their auctioneer who will be a performance in his own right. His name is DJ Harrington and the organisers have brought him over from the States. Terry Charlton has heard this guy on many occasions in the USA and tells me he is more than fun. DJ is also holding some motivational seminars during the show so you won’t only learn something, but enjoy doing it.
Award for an outstanding contribution to the UK vehicle recycling industry.
Something else that’s different this time is the introduction of industry awards. One of the awards will presented by MVDA to an individual or company that has over the years made an outstanding contribution to the UK vehicle recycling industry and deserves recognition as such. This can be in any aspect of the business – scrap, salvage or parts, auction, IT development, insurance, overseas trade association, vehicle manufacture, even Government if you so desire – your thoughts needn’t be restricted to current MVDA members, or indeed any MVDA member. Again, if you are an MVDA member and you have someone you would like to nominate, then please contact one one of the following:
Tracy or Chas at the MVDA office on 01543 254 254 or
Iona Smith on 020 7633 4526 or
Chloe Whittaker on 020 7633 4522
MVDA offers discounted membership deal at CARS 2014
If you’ve been thinking of joining the MVDA then there’s no better time than at the show as they are offering a one-off specially discounted first year subscription rate for any new member that joins the Association at CARS2014. CARS2014 is being held on Thursday 5th & Friday 6th June 2014 at Motorhog, Doncaster. Any new company joining the Association and paying in full at CARS 2014 will receive a £100 discount on the first year’s subscription, which is normally £495+VAT.

The MVDA, formed in 1943, represents the interests of UK vehicle recyclers. The Association provides help and guidance to members in areas such as Site Insurance, Environmental Permitting, Technical Competence, Health & Safety, Recycling Targets, Consumer affairs etc. MVDA is also particularly active in the fight against illegal operators and problems with motor salvage. So if you need help in any of these areas or share the concern of MVDA about illegal dismantling/ scrap yards, then why not add your voice to those of other professional vehicle recyclers. You can find out more information at the MVDA website.

Our industry is moving at a fast pace at the moment and CARS is one opportunity we have to get together and talk about the way things are going and what we can do to make our lives better in the future. We will be there in the Media Lounge so come along and say hello. Visit the CARS website for further information and discounted pre-registration.
