24 hour misfuelling specialist expands into salvage

AFF
New under cover operation for salvage up an running in Hertfordshire.
Demand from the insurance industry has led misfuelling specialist, AFF to set up a modern, under cover processing centre in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire for salvage.

This operation is still in the process of installing new equipment, racking etc, but what’s interesting is that the facility has been set up in response to a demand within the insurance industry to process end of life vehicles in a fully accountable, process driven manner.

The company’s full name is AFF Vehicle Services Ltd and specialises in the sale of both salvage vehicles and parts. Having the benefit of setting up the operation from a clean sheet means AFF have been able to design the under cover operation using the latest equipment and technologies currently available to the industry. Depollution systems from Autodrain have been installed to ensure everything is processed as it should be, with no harm to the environment.

An important aspect to the efficiency of the operation has been the software that’s available as this ensures the efficient processing and reporting of vehicles. For this, AFF chose DH System’s Frontier package to handle both salvage and parts. AFF’s director, Bruce Compton, said, “It was essential that we had sophisticated and thorough software to manage our systems as this allows us to provide the highest levels of customer service. This means accurate reporting for large account customers through to fast dispatch of parts sold to private buyers”.

The business is currently in the process of satisfying all the legal and safety requirements of a modern auto recycler, with staff sitting their WAMITAB qualifications and the company going through the final stages of registration for its ELV and ATF status. To help with this, AFF enlisted the help of ATF licensing specialist, Mike Goodgame of the Envirotech consultancy based in High Wycombe. Bruce added, “We are excited about joining the industry and look forward to developing relationships with other businesses interested in mutually beneficial trading”.

AFF started up handling 80 vehicles per month which is planned to grow significantly in the near future. Currently they are mainly selling salvage with only 10% of turnover being represented by parts sales. That’s expected to change as the business progresses and more and more vehicles not suitable for salvage resale are processed in-house. With contracts directly from the insurance sector, AFF have no issues with stock volumes. Space has been an issue due to large numbers of vehicles awaiting clearance but this has since been solved with an additional site used as an holding area.

Currently AFF are looking for an agent in Scotland to aid them with their northern salvage commitments, so if you’re north of the border and might be interested in a little extra business, you can call Bruce on 07860 377888 . Alternatively, anyone interested can visit the AFF website here.
